What did NYC have in store for us?
Greetings everyone! I'm writing this message on the other side of my birthday and I couldn't go another day without thanking you all for your support.
On August 26th I wrote to you that we were heading to NYC and I would so appreciate as a birthday gift if you'd take a listen and write a kind review for 'Nevermind.'
And you showed up!
Thank you so much for 1) your birthday love, 2) positive support for the podcast and 3) every word you all have written supporting the show.
I'm so grateful!
Now let me dish about New York. You guys, it was incredible!
You know when you accomplish something and then years later you return to it and wonder if you still have what it takes? That was our New York trip. I hadn't been in years and I'd been longing to take Oak and Zuri (my kids) there.
Many of you know me from my NY days and you know Oak was born there. I so wanted to show him the windows to the apartment we lived in and walk the park where we enjoyed so many beautiful moments. And we did!
That first picture in this email is us with our apartment building in the background. Our place was the 3 windows (more like 2.5) you can see in the second from the top floor.
AND amazingly, I can still roll with NYC. The subway system (you just put your phone down on the turnstile now and pay for your fare - so easy!) was just like riding a bike, I picked it right back up. And I was like a mother duck through the streets of NY, leading my ducklings and they rolled right with All Of It. Proud mama bear! (but also still a duck- you all know I like to mix metaphors lol).
A Broadway musical (Hadestown is incredible!), amazing Italian food in Bay Ridge (thank you Gino's) and of course, Maria Hernandez Park in Bushwick. The famous park of Oak's childhood.
The second and third pictures above show Oak's transformation from 1 year old to 12 year old AND the addition of his brother. Life is incredible my friends. Time is a spiralling sweetheart and I am grateful for so much.
I have dropped 2 episodes on the podcast since we last spoke and I'm excited to tell you more about those. But I'd like to wait til my next transmission for that. I'm all full on the love surrounding us and how time and life deliver unexpected gifts and that once in a while things all just feel like they land beautifully in a cohesive pile, despite it all looking and feeling like a chaos mess for a good chunk of time.
